Canon is developing flat panel TVs with Toshiba
As reported in The Age newspaper, Canon announced at a press conference
in Europe that they were developing flat panel TV products in
collaboration with Toshiba. This forms part of Canon’s expansion plans
where it aims to build its revenue by 60% by 2010, partly through
domination of existing market segments and partly by entering new
market areas, such as displays.
Canon’s TV products should start entering the market in 2006. They are
building their TV strategy around SED (surface conduction electron
emitter display) panels, coming from a new manufacturing plant built
with Toshiba. They are also working on OLED (organic light emitting
diode displays) to replace LCDs on their cameras and camcorders. The
third area of Canon’s display development lie in projection displays.
