The Canon PowerShot SX500 IS is the world’s lightest 30x optical zoom with wide-angle lens that fits in the palm of your hand
SYDNEY, 22 August, 2012 – Canon Australia has today launched the Canon PowerShotSX500 IS, the world’s lightest 30x zoom camera, and the newest addition to its renowned Super Zoom compact range, and the perfect companion for anyone demanding renowned ‘Canon quality’ and a highly versatile zoom range in an ultra-compact, lightweight body.
The PowerShot SX500 IS, which will be in stores in Australia from mid-September 2012, enables users to shoot photographs from wide angle through to an extensive 30x optical zoom, leaving them ready to capture any shot, from family portraits to travel landscapes and sports events with true-to-life image quality.
Featuring Canon’s ZoomPlus technology, the PowerShot SX500 IS extends high quality shooting up to twice the range of the optical zoom (60x ZoomPlus) through optimised image processing. Users have become used to rapid image degradation once they extend past the optical zoom range but with Canon’s ZoomPlus technology users don’t miss out on the perfect high quality image, no matter how far away the subject is.
“Consumers are increasingly demanding greater resolution, lens quality and optical zoom range in compact cameras. With the launch of the Canon PowerShot SX500 IS, we are broadening the Super Zoom category to deliver a high-performance, ultra-compact and versatile camera with an extraordinarily powerful zoom lens,” says Kai Lebens, Brand Manager – Digital Still Cameras. “No matter how far digital technology advances, the lens continues to underlie a camera’s performance. Canon has 75 years of producing world-first optics and Australians know that purchasing a Canon camera means they are getting the highest-quality lens available.”
One of the challenges with a long zoom range is that the slightest camera shake can mean you lose your subject when trying to take a photo. However, with the PowerShot SX500 IS and the latest Canon Framing Assist function, Seek, you can still get a great photo, no matter how far away your subject is. Simply holding the Seek button allows the user to quickly re-frame their shot on their chosen subject without zooming back and forth, enabling them to bring far away images quickly and easily back into frame without losing their focus. Together with its ultra-compact size and ergonomic design, the Seek function makes the PowerShot SX500 IS one of the most functional and versatile Super Zoom cameras on the market.
