Building on 70 years of camera and lens development, Canon Australia today announces the arrival of the much anticipated PowerShot G9. A compact digital camera that pursues the best in all areas, the PowerShot G9 builds on the excellence of its predecessors with the reintroduction of RAW format. With advanced image processing for superior quality and functionality, the PowerShot G9 is a true powerhouse.

The newest addition to the PowerShot G series realises the powerful capability of RAW format in a convenient digital still camera body, answering the needs of photographers. When using RAW, output from the sensor is recorded unmodified and without processing, ensuring unrivalled image quality. In addition to RAW, the PowerShot G9 also features enhanced DiG!C III technology including Face Detection and in-camera red-eye removal for further quality control.

“The new Canon PowerShot G9 continues on Canon’s tradition in innovation and is a must-have for those serious about their photography,” said Kimberley Langton, Product Manager – Digital Still Cameras, Consumer Imaging Products Group, Canon Australia. “The combination of the classic body style, superior technology and restored RAW format, is a compelling offer for enthusiast photographers.”

RAW Format Revival
By using RAW format to process images, PowerShot G9 users can adjust the photos while maintaining the highest level quality possible. Additionally, Canon’s RAW shooting speed is unrivalled, making photography enjoyable for the budding enthusiast as well as experienced photographers seeking complete creative control.

Canon’s Raw Image Task software, which adjusts and processes RAW images, has also been updated in the PowerShot G9. The easy-to-view and responsive interface ensures convenience while editing in-camera.

Canon’s Formula for Superior Image Quality
The PowerShot G9 successfully combines advanced camera technologies expected from Canon, including Optical Image Stabilizer functionality. The 12.1 megapixel CCD sensor is the best in its class, offering both highly detailed images and rich colour. Plus Canon’s enhanced DiG!C III Image Processor with Face Detection and red-eye correction, ensures perfect portraits to enable further convenience while shooting photographs in any situation.

Functional Control makes Advanced Photography a Breeze
The PowerShot G9 showcases a new “Face Select and Track” function whereby the camera allows users to select the main subject to focus on from a group of detected faces. This makes natural picture composition possible by accurately focusing on the desired photographic subject, where ever they appear in the frame.

Combing a massive 3.0 inch size with the high-quality performance of the Canon PureColor LCD II monitor makes viewing images on the PowerShot G9 more enjoyable. Additionally, Canon’s new Image Inspection Tool can be used during both shooting and playback, improving ease-of-use even further.
