Photography and Art Competitions

Photography and Digital Art Competitions

For the Winners and Finalists of previous DIMi photography and digital art competitions view them by following this link.

Photography and digital art competitions provide not only a great way to push your own technique but also can provide great inspiration when you examine the finalists. We run mostly monthly photography and digital art competitions with great prizes.

Unless otherwise specified, a person can enter a maximum of THREE (3) images in each competition. Competitions are open for the full calendar month specified.

Note - You do not have to use the sponsor’s software for any of these competitions. Use whatever you want to prepare the images.

New galleries have been setup on digitalimagemakernow.com because of some ongoing issues with the old galleries, which we are trying to resolve. Please register using the process on this page and then upload your competition images to the correct gallery. Please pick a username that is related to your real name. This makes it much easier when we are trying to notify you that you have won. You upload your images by choosing Add Items. Before you upload please make sure your filenames are short, no spaces and only lowercase letters and digits. I would actually recommend you make all file names your initials, a digit for the image out of 3, the month and year, as in wc3jun09.jpg.

Galleries have been setup on DIMW (www.digitalimagemakerworld.com) that, once you are registered, you can upload your own images to the right gallery. You will only need to register once and then you can use this account to login and upload your competition entries to the correct gallery. To register go to the gallery and register. Be sure to enter your full name as this will appear as the owner of the images. You can then start logging on and uploading images. You go to the appropriate album (gallery) and then select Add Items.

Only upload images to the appropriate gallery. Anyone violating this will be immediately banned. Make your images no larger than 800×800 pixels and make sure the filename contains only letters and numbers with no spaces. Entries will only be considered if uploading during the appropriate month(s) for the competition in question.

This is how you upload:

1. Login to the gallery and you will get up here:

2. Click on the “no thumbnail” or the image if there is already one showing, to enter the album.

3. Click on Add Items to upload images:

Entering image competitions4. Browse and choose one or more files to upload. You can fill in the Caption field with the Title of the image at this time, just be sure to select the Set item titles from Caption option. Remember to click Add Items at the bottom of the page:

I have had to remove the ability to edit your uploads later to change title, etc because some people do not seem to be able to follow even simple instructions and have changed things they should not have.

I’ve set a total quota for each competition entrant of 2MB. Maximum image size is 1000×1000, normal display is 640×640. If you’ve sized your images to this and used appropriate JPEG compression you should have file sizes under 200kB.

Warning - Please make sure that the file names of your images are Internet friendly. This means that the file name may only contain letters and numbers, the _ and the -, and nothing else. Especially no spaces.

Our competitions are open to all forms of photography and digital art, digital or film-based, using analog or digital processes. There are no restrictions on the amount of manipulation you can do, because all such restrictions are arbitrary and ultimately misguided and harmful to photography and art. Similarly our competitions are open to anyone, anywhere, with the exception of employees of the competition sponsor and Technomagickal Pty Ltd, unless otherwise specified.

It is a condition of entry that:

you own the copyright for all of your image and components thereof
you have appropriate permissions for any people or property that you need release from
no nude photography of anyone under of the age of 18 years may be entered at all

Note the other terms and conditions at the end of this page.

Digital ImageMaker Competition General Terms and Conditions

The general terms and conditions apply to all DIMi competitions except where specifically varied for an individual competition.

Basically, we like to keep it all pretty simple, so there are not too many of them:

  1. No correspondence will be entered into and the decisions of the judges are final.
  2. No employee or correspondent for DIMi may enter the competition, nor may any employee of the prize providing company or its affiliates
  3. In a monthly competition, entries that are received between 12:00AM on the 1st day of the month and 11:59PM on the last day of the month, Pacific Standard Time (California, USA) will be considered to be entries of that month
  4. All rights to the entries remain with you, the owner of the entry. By entering you grant DIMi and the sponsor of the competition the right to display the entry on the web and in print to promote the competition and DIMi. Shortlisted and winning entries will remain up on the DIMi web site for as long as DIMi deems appropriate, but always with attribution to the entrant and only in the context of the competition. We will never use your entries for other purposes and this term is not subject to change.
  5. Prizes are provided by the sponsor and shipped to the winner(s) by the sponsor or their agents. While DIMi will, at its discretion, make reasonable efforts to resolve any issues over delivery of the prize(s), we accept no responsibility for this process and in no way are responsible for the provision of the prize(s) in the event that the sponsor fails to deliver
  6. You warrant that you own the copyright to whatever you submit and that you have appropriate rights and permissions for anything that appears in the submission. Furthermore you will act to protect DIMi and accept all liability and costs should any dispute about the contents of your submission arise with a third-party
  7. DIMi has full rights to refuse any entry and to take down any accepted entry at any time should any issue regarding the entry arise, such as ethical or moral concerns, legal issues or any other reason that DIMi feels appropriate. In the case of taking down an entry we will always try to let you know the reasons so that you have the opportunity to resolve the issue. DIMI also has the right to not make an award in a competition if it believes the standard of entries are not appropriate or there were to few entries to make judging reasonable.
  8. Unless otherwise specified, all entries must be emailed to the appropriate email address as specified on the main competition’s page in a web displayable format (e.g. JPEG, Flash, Shockwave, Quicktime Movie) at a file size of less than 500kb. You must provide an address where the goods can be shipped to, plus a daytime phonenumber for the courier company.
  9. For the purposes of the competitions and these terms and conditions, DIMi refers to Digital ImageMaker International, Technomagickal Pty Ltd, Sci-Art Trust, their owners, directors, employees, representatives, beneficiaries, heirs or estates
  10. The terms and conditions can be modified at any time by DIMi or the competition sponsor. The exception to this is item 4 above. Your images will ALWAYS remain yours and we will never use them for any other purpose than spelled out in 4. Any changes will be made on the web site as soon as possible but apply retrospectively to any entries submitted before the change takes effect .
