These entries caught the judges' eyes for a number of reasons.
Carl B. Weinrich, Temple, PA, USA

The photo consists of five images taken with a D100. They were shot at sunset from Treasure Island near St. Petersburg, Fl. The images were assembled in PSCS using manual placement rather than a photomerging program. The reason for this was the need to zigzag the selections over wide ranges in order for the waves to align and merge properly. Even with this method, some cloning and hand painting had to be used to maintain the wave flow. Another difficulty was color matching the shots. I made the mistake of forgetting to set the camera to manual when taking the shots. Matching was a little easier because I use raw formatting. I then manually set the color temp and tweaked the images till they matched. A final cropping and Levels/Saturation adjustment while softproofing finished the photo.

It's a composition of 13 consecutive shots taken at 1 second intervals on a Canon 20D - trick is to not take the shots too close (or aircraft overlap) - nor too far apart (difficult to stitch) (and when you've got that sussed it all changes as the aircraft accelerates and the angular velocity changes!) - focal length is critical too - otherwise the aircraft overfills the frame as it gets closer.

Craig O'Brien, of Thirroul, NSW, Australia.

The location of this picture is at "Washer Woman's Beach" - Bendalong, NSW Australia.
A clay cliff has been exposed by the relentless Pacific Ocean, the brilliant orange colours reflect the tones of a sunburnt Australia.
This image was shot in RAW format on a Fuji FinePix S9500 using a Panosaurus tripod head. The resulting 20 images where stitched using Stitcher 5.1
then output as a spherical panorama 12680 pixels x 3630 pixels for LightJet photographic printing.

This is a panorama taken overlooking the main lake/exhitbit inside LegoLand California. The picture is a false-color infrared image taken using a Nikon D70 with a Hoya R72 infrared filter. The pictures were shot in RAW, stiched together using Autostich and the final image edited in Paint Shop Pro 9. The red & blue channels of the final image were swapped to give the red/orange color to the foliage.
Harry Lake, EX BUSSUM, Netherlands

Another four images taken with a Logitech Pocket Digital 130, this time in portrait format. (This has helped to keep the verticals vertical!) The panorama was again created with the ACDSee plugin StitcherEZ from RealViz. I found it difficult to choose between the two panoramas of this scene. One is better stitched in some areas, and this one is better proportioned and shows the windows off better, and I didn't have to do anything clever to get the stitching to work - but my partner is missing to the left of the picture.
Jim Anderson, St. Louis, MO USA

Taken 02-12-06 at St Louis Forest Park. This photo is made up of f! ive photos taken with a Sony CyberShot DSC-P200 that has been modified for infrared photography. Instead of using my Hoya R72 filter which blocks out most natural light I decided to let in all of the light which made some very interesting and psychedelic colors.

"Lake Tahoe from the Tallac Shore" assembles five images taken with the Nikon D1x and Nikkor AF 24-85 f/2.8-4 D, separated and balanced in two strips to show the entire lake. They were merged and processed using Photoshop. Lake Tahoe itself is 22 miles long (left to right) by 11 across.
