March ThinkTank Photo Weather Competition Winner

The winner of this photography competition is now up. The March competition winner is finally up. We’ve had a lot of personal dramas here and that is mainly the reason for the holdup in publishing this. I have also been reconsidering the running of competitions with small value prizes, which frankly attract too few entries to make it worthwhile for anyone. More news on that soon. Anyway, March was weather photography and we got a very small number of entries. From these the winner was a clear standout as a strong, well composed and considered image. So the winner of the ThinkTank Photo Pee Wee Pixel Pocket Rocket prize, valued at $13.50, is Barbara E. Leven of Astoria, NY. “The title of this image is “W Train”.  The newly fallen snow, the curve … Read entire article »

Lensbaby Sponsored Selective Blur Photography Competition Winner and Finalists

An amazingly difficult competition to judge has been finally decided. The Lensbaby selective blur competition proved to be very difficult indeed to judge. Not only was there a large quantity of amazingly good work, but when it came to judging it we discovered there were enough different things to look for in blur images that the judges started off all looking for different things. Eventually we sorted this out and got down to a half dozen great images. One image stood out from these. The winning entry is Tuscan Summer by C. David Tobie. This struck us as not only a very effective use of blur but also one in which the blur has assisted in making an iconic image. In the end, everyone agreed that it came down to one image. So we award the prize of an Epson 1410 printer to Tony Dimmock of Melbourne for his image Passing Storm 2, shot at Lake Mungo. The judges felt it was a strong and dramatic image, showing patience to get the sky and lighting right, even … Read entire article »
