A new model to sit between the E-3 and E-520 digital SLR cameras is being developed. It should be called the E-10, I would guess.
Olympus Imaging Corporation (President: Masaharu Okubo) has today announced the development of a new Olympus E-System interchangeable-lens digital SLR. Due to be released in the first quarter of 2009, this new Four Thirds compliant camera reinforces the company’s commitment to the Four Thirds standard.
Dedicated to expanding its line of Four Thirds System-compliant digital SLR cameras, this model is being developed as an advanced amateur camera. It is to be positioned between the E-520 and E-3. This model will inherit all the outstanding features of the E-3, such as the high-speed AF system using 11-points-full twin cross sensor and the built-in image stabilisation mechanism with a correction effect up to 5 EV steps. Other highlights include a new and updated feature replacing the splash and dust-proof attributes of the E-3.
Positioned as a mid-level model, the new digital SLR camera is designed for anyone who wants to express their creativity through photography – from amateurs just starting out to professionals with years of experience behind them.
The camera will be exhibited as a reference product at Photokina 2008, the world’s biggest trade fair for the photographic and imaging industries, held in Cologne, Germany from September 23 – 28. After extensive research and development to continue the pursuit of imaging excellence through technological innovation, Olympus announced the next development in the evolution of the Olympus E-System at the previous Photokina fair in 2006. One of the technological hallmarks of this new era was the industry-first incorporation of “Full-Time Live View” as a standard digital SLR feature. This added to the excitement of other innovative features of the Olympus E-System – including the 100% Digital-Dedicated Design and advanced Dust Reduction system.
The E-System line-up currently includes popular models such as the E-420 and E-520, as well as the flagship E-3. All of these cameras provide digital SLR users with the high quality imaging, superior reliability and exceptional portability.
