New Models Combine Exmor R CMOS sensor, Sony G Lens and BIONZ Processor For Unparalleled Imaging Quality
As a leader in the high-definition camcorder category, Sony is introducing four hard disk drive Handycam® camcorders with high-performance optics, large storage capacity and advanced technologies.

The HDR-XR520V, HDR-XR500V, HDR-XR200V and HDR-XR100 camcorder models preserve content in high resolution with 1920×1080 high-definition video recording and up to 12-megapixel still image capture.

The flagship model includes a 240GB hard drive that holds up to 101 hours of HD video (LP mode), embedded GPS, a back-illuminated Exmor R(TM) CMOS sensor, and improved optical image stabilization.

Sony XR520 digital video camcorder

“Sony will continue to lead the high-definition camcorder segment with our strong new lineup,” said Kelly Davis, director of camcorder marketing at Sony Electronics. “These models represent Sony’s top of the line camcorders, delivering innovative features and advanced optics for unprecedented picture quality.”

High-Performance Optics

Offering a refined level of optical performance, the new Sony high definition camcorders combine an Exmor R CMOS sensor, the Sony G Lens and a BIONZ processor.

The HDR-XR520V and HDR-XR500V models are the first camcorders to use a back-illuminated Exmor R CMOS sensor. Because the wire circuitry is placed behind the sensor’s photo detectors, the camcorders provide stunning low light performance with approximately twice the sensitivity compared to Sony’s existing front-illuminated CMOS sensor at F2.0. This results in brilliant image clarity and reduced grain.

These two camcorders feature a Sony G lens that incorporates advanced optics and low-dispersion aspheric glass elements for accurate color production and sharp, detailed images. A six-blade iris produces circular “bokeh” defocus effects for creative shooting possibilities.

A high-speed BIONZ imaging processor handles massive amounts of high resolution data from the Exmor R CMOS sensor for quick response and extraordinary picture quality.

The models also have an improved Optical Steady Shot(TM) feature with Active Mode, which allows a moveable lens element to shift with a greater range of motion during camera shake. This results in dramatically smoother video footage and photos.

Large Storage Capacity

The HDR-XR520V, HDR-XR500V, HDR-XR200V and HDR-XR100 camcorders offer extremely long recording times with hard drive capacity of 240GB, 120GB, 120GB and 80GB, respectively. In addition to a built-in hard drive, the models can also record content to optional Memory Stick PRO Duo(TM) media.

Sony’s new 16GB PRO-HG Duo HX Memory Stick® media (model MS-HX16G) offers extremely quick data transfer rates with the ability to transfer approximately one hour of high definition video from the camcorder to the PC in about six minutes.

Sophisticated Technologies

Making it easy to retrace your steps by shooting location, the HDR-XR520V, HDR-XR500V and HDR-XR200V camcorders feature a built-in GPS antenna and NAVTEQ® digital maps for video and photo geo-tagging. Geo-tagged content is marked by a push pin at each shot location and can be played back on the camcorder map index display or enjoyed on the PC using the included Picture Motion Browser software. The feature also highlights your current map location and automatically adjusts the camcorder clock to the proper time zone.

All new models feature Smile Shutter(TM) technology, which automatically detects faces and takes photos as your subject smiles, even while shooting HD video. In addition to Face Detection technology, the camcorders are packed with powerful features including Dolby® Digital 5.1-channel surround sound recording, a built-in zoom microphone and up to 3.2-inch wide (measured diagonally) touch-panel LCD screens.

Improved Post-Shooting Experience

Developed for viewing special moments on your television with family and friends, the Highlight Playback mode on the HDR-XR520V, HDR-XR500V and HDR-XR200V models personalize your video footage by generating a video slideshow with theme transitions and background music. You can also add your own MP3 music files using the included software.

All models ship with the latest version of Picture Motion Browser software to easily view, organize, and upload images to many major video and photo sharing Web sites.

Standard Definition

Complementing these high-definition camcorders, Sony is updating its standard-definition, hard-drive line with three new models. They have up to 60X optical zoom, hybrid movie recording to Memory Stick PRO Duo(TM) media (sold separately), large built-in hard drives and 2.7-inch (measured diagonally) wide LCD touch panel screens. Additionally, the DCR-SR87 includes a 1-megapixel CCD imager and the DCR-SR47 model comes in three color variations (red, blue and silver).

The 80GB DCR-SR87, 80GB DCR-SR67 and 60GB DCR-SR47 camcorders work with Sony’s new DVDirect® Express DVD writer, model VRD-P1, offering a quick and easy way to transfer home videos directly to DVD without a computer.  By attaching the DVDirect Express via its built-in USB cable to compatible Handycam camcorders, it can transfer video to DVD for playback on most home DVD players.  The VRD-P1 unit will be available this month for about $150.

Availability in the US

The HDR-XR520V, HDR-XR500V, HDR-XR200V and HDR-XR100 will begin shipping in March for about $1500, $1300, $1000 and $750, respectively. The DCR-SR87, DCR-SR67 and DCR-SR47 will begin shipping in February for about $500, $450 and $400, respectively. The MS-HX16G 16GB Memory Stick® media card will ship in March for around $140. Camcorders and accessories will be available at Sony Style® retail stores, online through www.sonystyle.com, at authorized dealers and military base exchanges nationwide.

New Sony Flash Memory Camcorder

Sony is making it easy to preserve memories in the best quality possible by introducing a flash memory-based high-definition camcorder with intelligent features, which is designed to fit within the family budget.

The HDR-CX100 Flash Memory Handycam® camcorder preserves your memories in high resolution by capturing 1920×1080 high-definition video and 4-megapixel photos. For around $600, the model also features intelligent Face Detection and Smile Shutter(TM) technology, 8GB of embedded memory (a portion of which is used for data management), and three color options (red, black and silver) — all in a compact design.

“The new HDR-CX100 camcorder makes it possible for every family to own an HD camcorder so they can capture important moments in the highest quality possible” said Kelly Davis, director of camcorder marketing at Sony Electronics. “Packed with several intelligent features in an extremely portable body, we expect this model to attract many camcorder customers into the high-definition category.”

Sony CX100 digital video camcorder

The HDR-CX100 camcorder features Smile Shutter technology to capture candid smiling photos while simultaneously recording video. To make sure your family stays in focus at all times, Face Detection technology recognizes and enhances the face by automatically correcting focus, exposure and color control.

Ready to capture important family moments straight out of the box, the camcorder includes 8GB of embedded memory which holds over three hours of high definition video recording (LP mode). You can also capture content onto Memory Stick® PRO Duo media (sold separately) for additional recording time.

In addition to a high-quality Carl Zeiss® Vario-Tessar® 10X optical zoom lens, the camcorder is packed with such incredible features as a built-in zoom microphone for recording clear dialogue and Steady Shot® image stabilization that reduces shake for smooth video and clear photos. The camcorder instantly powers on when you open the 2.7-inch (measured diagonally) Clear Photo LCD Plus(TM) screen to make sure you capture the moment before it passes.

Sony is also introducing three standard-definition flash memory models offering up to 16GB embedded memory (a portion of which is used for data management), 60X optical zoom and 2.7-inch (measured diagonally) wide LCD touch panel screens. Taking advantage of the compact nature of flash memory, the new camcorders are highly portable with personalized color variations in red, blue and silver.

The 16GB DCR-SX60, 8GB DCR-SX41and 4GB DCR-SX40 camcorders will cost about $370, $300 and $270, respectively.  The models will work with Sony’s new DVDirect® Express writer (model VRD-P1), which offers a quick and easy way to transfer home videos directly to DVD without a computer.  The VRD-P1 DVD Express writer will be available this month for about $150.

Camcorders and accessories will be available in March at Sony Style® retail stores, online through www.sonystyle.com, at authorized dealers and at military base exchanges nationwide.

2009 line includes palm-sized new high definition models, hard disk and memory recording, more color choices and new sharing options.
JVC today announced a new line of Everio camcorders that offers innovations in video sharing, dual storage memory models and hi-def camcorders no larger than their diminutive standard definition counterparts.

For 2009, what the Everio line offers is choice – in storage medium, color and sharing.  The line includes hard disk drive (HDD) models, memory camcorders, and for the first time dual memory models, including standard and high definition dual SD memory card camcorders, the world’s first dual card slot models.  There’s also a standard definition model that combines SD card recording with internal flash memory.

For sharing, all 2009 JVC Everios make it easy to watch videos on an iPod® or iPhone® by exporting videos to the user’s iTunes® library with the new One Touch Export function provided by bundled software for Windows®. This joins the One Touch Upload function for uploading to YouTube(TM), for 2009 a feature available on all Everio camcorders, and One Touch DVD Creation function for easy archiving and sharing by disc, a long-time Everio feature.

All 2009 Everio camcorders are extremely compact, with the high definition models for the first time the same size as standard definition Everios that use the same media.  In addition, more models offer color options for 2009, and the choice of colors has expanded to six.

The 2009 JVC Everio line includes three HD Everio models that all record 1920 x 1080 full HD video.  The GZ-HD300, with 60GB hard drive, and the GZ-HD320, with 120GB hard drive, offer HDD storage for extra-long recording times.  The GZ-HM200 offers dual SD card recording, with continuous recording from one card to the next, and is one of the smallest and lightest full HD camcorders available.

In standard definition, there are three new Everio G series models – the 60GB GZ-MG630, the 80GB GZ-MG670 and the 120GB GZ-MG680.  The Everio S series of memory camcorders includes two models – the GZ-MS120, with dual SD card slots, and the GZ-MS130, with an SD card slot and 16GB of internal flash memory.  All dual memory models offer continuous recording.

High Definition Everio
All JVC HD Everios feature a 1/4.1-inch 3.05 megapixel CMOS image sensor. All offer full HD recording – full 1920 x 1080 resolution – and they maintain native 1920 x 1080 resolution through playback, enabling output of a 1080p 60 fps progressive signal to make the most of high-end HD displays.  Using the same GENESSA processing technology used in JVC HD televisions, conversion to 1920 x 1080 at 60 fps provides seamless natural video, free of motion judder during fast action activities, jaggy lines on angles and moiré patterns on fine details when zooming. 1920 x 1080 HD discs played back via the camera from the JVC CU-VD50 SHARE STATION® are also converted to 60 fps progressive.

HD Everio models are also equipped with HDMI(TM) V.1.3 with x.v.Color(TM). Among the colors that the human eye can see, x.v.Color technology, based on the xvYCC color standard, can display 100 percent compared to about 55 percent with sRGB. So when connected to an x.v.Color compatible HDTV, the pristine world of high definition can be enjoyed to its fullest.

A new KONICA MINOLTA HD LENS, developed especially for Everio, provides a high-performance “eye” for the capture of Full HD resolution images, and also delivers a high optical zoom ratio of 20x which is among the highest for HD camcorders.

JVC’s new HD Gigabrid Premium video engine is used in both HD Everio and standard definition Everios. It not only applies advanced image processing to optimize image quality, it also contributes to a 30 percent reduction in power consumption compared to previous Everio models, and also enables approximately 2.5-times faster creation of DVD discs for standard definition or AVCHD DVDs from HD Everio.

All HD Everios now feature the new AVCHD UXP mode with an unprecedented bit rate of up to 24Mbps to deliver more detailed, sharper images with less noise.  UXP mode is ideal for storing to Blu-ray or an external hard disk drive. All the recording modes for HD Everio models – UXP, XP, SP, and EP – use Full HD 1920 x 1080 resolution. The 120GB GZ-HD320 can record up to 11 hours in the UXP mode and up to 50 hours in the EP mode.

Further contributing to high quality video on all HD Everio models is Face Detection technology, which automatically detects faces within the image being recorded to accurately adjust focus and exposure for sharp, beautiful images.

The 2009 HD Everio line is comprised of the following models:

Model    Storage Media    Available Colors
GZ-HM200    SD/SDHC Card Dual Slot    Onyx Black, Sapphire Blue, Garnet Red
GZ-HD300    60GB Hard Disk Drive/microSD/SDHC Card    Onyx Black, Sapphire Blue, Ruby Red
GZ-HD320    120GB Hard Disk Drive/microSD/SDHC Card    Onyx Black

Everio G Series Camcorders
The 2009 line of JVC Everio G Series hard disk drive camcorders includes three models, each featuring a 1/6-inch 800,000-pixel CCD image sensor.  Each model also uses a KONICA MINOLTA LENS with a 40x dynamic zoom and 800x digital zoom.  Dynamic zoom achieves up to 40x magnification by using nearly all of the CCD’s effective pixels without any picture quality degradation.

Two models, the GZ-MG680 and GZ-MG670, offer HD upconversion that converts the camcorders’ standard definition recordings for output as a 1920 x 1080p upconverted video signal, allowing HDMI connection to compatible HD televisions.  Both models have an HDMI mini terminal.

Hard disk drive capacity ranges from 60GB to 120GB, with the 120GB GZ-MG680 providing from 28 to 150 hours of recording, depending on record mode.

The 2009 JVC Everio G series line is comprised of the following models:

Model    Storage Media    Available Colors
GZ-MG630    60GB Hard Disk Drive/microSD/SDHC Card    Diamond Silver, Sapphire Blue, Ruby Red
GZ-MG670    80GB Hard Disk Drive/microSD/SDHC Card    Onyx Black
GZ-MG680    120GB Hard Disk Drive/microSD/SDHC Card    Onyx Black

Everio S Series Camcorders
The Everio S series of memory camcorders includes two models for 2009, and both are dual storage memory models.  The GZ-MS120 has a pair of SD/SDHC card slots while the GZ-MS130 offers a single SD/SDHC card slot and 16GB of internal flash memory.  Both offer continuous recording – during recording, when one storage medium fills up, recording automatically switches to the other.  When recording with the dual-slot GZ-MS120 in the highest quality mode (Ultra), recording capacity ranges from 3.7 hours using a pair of 8GB cards to 15 hours using two 32GB cards.  In the lowest quality mode (Eco), recording time ranges from 20 hours to 80 hours.

The 2009 JVC Everio S series line is comprised of the following models:

Model    Storage Media    Available Colors
GZ-MS120    SD/SDHC Card – Dual Slot    Onyx Black, Topaz Blue, Garnet Red
GZ-MS130    SD/SDHC Card/16GB Internal Memory    Onyx Black

Everio Features

JVC video camcorder camera

All 2009 Everios – HD, G series and S series – make sharing and watching videos easier than ever.  New for this year is the One Touch Export
function that allows Everio videos to be imported into iTunes® and loaded into an iPod® or iPhone®.   All 2009 Everios also offer
One Touch DVD burning and the One Touch Upload function that JVC introduced to users in 2008 as a new and convenient way to upload videos to YouTube(TM).

To use any of the three functions, simply connect Everio to a PC using the supplied USB cable. Then, the user chooses one of three buttons on the Everio: UPLOAD, EXPORT, or DIRECT DVD (DIRECT DISC for HD Everio models).  Pressing the button will launch the appropriate Windows PC application that comes bundled with Everio, and the user simply follows the simple on-screen prompts. With just a few mouse clicks the process of uploading to YouTube(TM), exporting to iTunes®, burning to disc or transferring to an external hard disk drive will be completed.  For uploading to YouTube(TM), the user can perform an in-camera edit of any length video to fit the 10-minute YouTube(TM) limit.

For disc based archiving, there is an alternative to using a PC. JVC offers the CU-VD50 Direct DVD Burner/Player as an option, which allows burning of Everio videos to a DVD disc without having to use a PC.  When used with HD Everio, this solution can create AVCHD DVDs that are playable on many Blu-ray players.  There are also JVC-recommended third-party peripherals, including a BD burner by LaCie, as well as hard disk drives by LaCie and Seagate® that provide a worry-free environment for high-capacity storage of recordings made using HD Everio.

The new Everio MediaBrowser software supplied with all Everio models is a Windows application providing an easy-to-search calendar-type graphical interface for indexing and finding video files. Thumbnail images of recorded videos and stills are superimposed on the calendar so it’s easy to see when any scene was recorded.  The Everio MediaBrowser also allows easy playback, simple cut editing, and “Decomotion” to spruce up recorded footage with animated graphics for upload to YouTube(TM).  It also supports Export to iTunes®, Upload to YouTube(TM), burning to disc or transferring to HDD.  The Everio MediaBrowser software supplied with HD Everio models supports burning to Blu-ray disc in addition to DVD.

Another new feature found on all Everio camcorders is Digest Playback, which offers an easy and entertaining way to check the content residing on Everio’s HDD or SD/SDHC card. The function automatically selects highlight scenes from among the recorded content using JVC’s proprietary algorithm and plays back what looks like a “coming attractions” trailer for a movie. Sixty minutes of footage is condensed into five minutes of highlight scenes.

Other Everio features have been enhanced for 2009.  Laser Touch Operation has been updated to allow control of zooming and recording using either the Laser Touch scroll bar or buttons next to the LCD screen, as well as by the standard zoom lever and REC button. And as before, Laser Touch makes it easy to browse through thumbnail images of recorded scenes and access menu selection. Power-linked operation, long offered by JVC, goes a step further this year. Simply opening the LCD monitor automatically opens the built-in lens cover and powers up the camcorder.  Closing the LCD also closes the lens cover and shuts down the power. With Quick Restart, recording can start in about one second after the LCD is re-opened.

In addition to performance and convenience, the 2009 Everio line offers plenty of style and shooting comfort.  A new design features elegant curves, a silver-framed LCD and a comfortable angled grip with a new dual use strap.  The strap can be used in the usual camcorder fashion, supporting the user’s hand when shooting, or it can be extended and used as a wrist strap like the type on most digital still cameras.

In addition, two new colors have been added for selected models – Garnet Red and Topaz Blue, joining the Ruby Red, Sapphire Blue, Onyx Black and Diamond Silver.

Sanyo CG9 Video Camera

Video is recorded in the advanced MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 format encoding technology. This advanced compression delivers exceptional video clarity and detail while maintaining the smallest file size possible. Users can record up to one hour of video per gigabyte of available memory (TV-HQ mode) on a standard SD or SDHC memory card. SDHC cards up to a capacity of 32 gigabytes are supported.

Photos and movies are easily copied and loaded on a personal computer or uploaded and shared on the Internet for online use on blogs, video-sharing websites and personal websites.

High resolution 9.1-megapixel CMOS sensor allows movies to be recorded and played back at a smooth rate of 60 fps (TV-HR mode).

Face Chaser technology recognizes and automatically focuses on up to 12 faces in each still image.

The CG9 captures 9.1-megapixel still photos and provides excellent low-light performance.

Sequential photo setting lets you take up to 10** photos in rapid succession with a shutter speed of 5 frames per second (fps).

The CG9 features a newly developed high-power 5x optical zoom with a bright maximum aperture of f/3.5 (wide) and f/3.7 (tele). The camera features eight groups and eleven total lenses. Combined with the 12x digital zoom, the HD700 provides up to 62.5x zooming capability.

The Xacti CG9 features a large 2.5 inch amorphous silicon TFT Liquid Crystal Display (LCD). The bright display flips out from the camera and rotates to allow taking great video or still images from otherwise-difficult-to-view positions. This is especially useful when shooting in large crowds or in small rooms.

The Windows compatible CG9 is also designed to work with Apple’s full complement of video editing applications including the iMovie 08. Easily edit your movies and add them to your website or YouTube for sharing or create versions for iPod, iPhone or the Apple TV.

The SANYO Xacti CG9 records high-quality video and photos directly to a standard SD or SDHC Memory Card (sold separately). The camcorder can record up to one hour of MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 video per gigabyte of available memory (TV-HQ mode).

Each video is recorded as an individual MPEG-4 and each still as a JPEG so you can have true random access allowing you to review a specific image or video quickly and easily, without waiting for tape rewinding or fast forwarding.

The Xacti series has become known for its ergonomic design. The CG9 is ideal for convenient, one-handed use with larger, easier to use function buttons and a comfortable, rounded grip. Easy-to-hold and easy-to-shoot, the CG9 makes it easy to capture that special moment every time. The CG9’s thoughtful design also allows level filming when used with a tripod.

New Video Memory Cards from Lexar Media Provide Extended Recording Capabilities for Growing Number of Consumers Capturing High-D

Lexar Media, a leading global provider of memory products for digital media, announced today a new line of memory cards specifically designed for extended, standard- and high-definition (HD) video capture.
The Lexar® Secure Digital High Capacity (SDHC(TM)) Full-HD and the Lexar Memory Stick PRO Duo(TM) Full-HD Video memory cards give consumers a wide selection of easy-to-use memory solutions for capturing and storing more of the videos that matter, in stunning 1080 resolution full-HD video. In addition to providing consumers with a reliable alternative to traditional tape-based storage devices, the Lexar Full-HD video memory cards also offer high-speed video transfer from the card to a computer for backup and sharing on popular user-generated content websites. The Lexar SDHC Full-HD Video memory card is available in 4GB, 8GB, and 16GB capacities, with the ability to record up to 90, 180, and 360 minutes of content, respectively. The Lexar Memory Stick PRO Duo Full-HD Video memory card comes in capacities of 4GB and 8GB, and can record up to 90 and 180 minutes of content, respectively. For additional information about Lexar Full-HD video memory cards, please visit www.lexar.com.

“As more consumers embrace digital video recording as part of their lifestyles, it is critical they have easy and reliable ways to record and store their memories and important events,” said Manisha Sharma, director of product marketing, Lexar Media. “Whether they are capturing sporting events, dance recitals, school plays, or their babies’ first steps, consumers require memory cards designed to meet the requirements of 1080 HD video. The Lexar Full-HD video memory cards provide the extended recording times they need and the reliability they have come to expect from Lexar Media.”

The growing popularity and affordability of HD digital camcorders makes the Lexar Full-HD Video memory cards an increasingly popular option for consumers looking to record their memories. With the line of Lexar Full-HD video memory cards, consumers receive the capacity to record and store more of life’s milestones and important events, as well as the speeds to quickly move that content from the card to the host computer. They also receive Lexar Media’s reliability, helping to ensure that captured video remains safe when stored on the Lexar Full-HD memory card.

“Fewer camcorders use tape media to record video, and more compact digital cameras have High Definition video capture capabilities,” said Chris Chute, research manager, Worldwide Digital Imaging Solutions Group, IDC. “This combination has lead to increased demand for features within video-specific memory cards, especially the capability to record and store 1080 HD video. As consumers invest in HD camcorders, they want to make sure their memory cards can take full advantage of those HD capabilities.”

The Lexar SDHC Full-HD and Memory Stick PRO Duo Full-HD Video memory cards include a five-year limited lifetime warranty. The cards also include jewel cases and writeable labels to help users organize and identify videos. Both video memory cards are expected to be available in early March.
